Potential Husband Update
Violet is a lucky girl. Many of our friends have boys and I fully plan on making sure she marries one of them. Here she's got 2 options with the Mettler boys...
Makes Me Melt Like a Popsicle on the Fourth of July
Our first Fourth of July! And, yes, I did drag my 2 week old to the annual pancake breakfast. I HAD to get out of the house. Don't judge me. ;)

Violet clearly wanted her picture taken! I'm sure she's royally pissed at me for the bow on her head. Get used to it honey. For the rest of our lives, I'll be putting them in for pictures and you'll be trying to take them out. And so it begins...

Aunts and Uncles, Oh my!
This girl has plenty of Auntie's and Uncles!... Minus one ;( Uncle Jerry we miss you! Violet cannot wait to meet you
I'm Comin' Home
Watch out! She's coming home! We had strategically planned our homecoming so there was as little impact on the animals as possible. I have to say, it worked out quite well. Everyone survived and no one was terribly mad! Success!
The plan: Nicole will stay outside with the baby, Dan will bring the dogs out then we'll all walk inside the house together as one big happy family. This technique worked when we brought Jersey home so why wouldn't it work with Violet?! ;)

Violet Olsson Grauman
Little Miss Violet decided to really make an entrance into this world. It was the weirdest, most amazing, scariest, and most painful day of my entire life. I've done my best to piece together the timeline of the day. Give or take a minute, here's how it went....
1 PM: I started feeling contractions. I didn't think they were contractions! It just felt like cramps so I brushed it off and decided to continue on with plans for a trip to Costco with my mom. At this point they weren't regular or strong and I just felt like I had to pee. I assumed it was the beginning of labor but knew I could be in this state for days so I didn't really take it seriously.
3 PM: We need to get out of Costco NOW! I still didn't believe they were contractions, but I knew they were coming fast and getting stronger. Not sure what I thought they were if they weren't contractions?!
3:30 PM I finally called the doctor's office considering it was a Friday afternoon. They said to come in right away and see the doctor.
Thoughts in my head: Grrrreeeaaaattttt. This should be fun.
4 PM: We arrive at the doctor. Dan is still at home waiting to hear if he should come to the hospital or head to work.
4:30 PM: After a little waiting I finally see the doctor and he tells me I am dilated to 1CM and 100% effaced. If you don't know what that means Google it. ;) He sends me to the hospital and plans to come over and break my water later that evening. Little did he know what was coming... {Insert evil laugh here}
4:45 PM: We arrive at the Maternity ward, Dan is on his way. Of course it's super busy and there are no rooms. So I wait in the hall, in a chair while the nurses rush to 'put together' a room for me. Once they are ready they escort me into what looks like a closet! It's maybe 10x10, maybe. No windows and what I thought was a bed, was actually a gurney.
Words out of my mouth: I am NOT having my baby in this room. The nurse said "don't worry, you won't." Another evil laugh?!
5:00 PM: I'm in the bed and contractions are coming fast and hard. It completely sucks. All I remember is listening to Dan tell me they had peaked and begging for drugs. Anything, street drugs would have been fine at that point!! The nurse checked me and I was dilated to 2 CM. Thoughts in my head: 45 minutes to go 1 CM and it hurts this bad? I'm going to die.
This is where it all gets out of control....literally. Chaos.
5:30 PM: All of a sudden the dam broke. I told the nurse my water broke and she decided to check me again. Dilated to 5CM!!! That's right, 3 CM in 30 minutes. Immediately everyone switched gears and started running.....
Words out of my mouth: I need drugs! Don't I get an epidural? Can someone give me something? Dan! Read the damn machine!!!!
The response was always no, it's too late for any drugs.
Thoughts in my head: I'm definitely going to die.
5:45 PM: The doctor comes rushing in, quiets the room and gets my attention. He check me and I'm 10CM. This part I do remember. He apologizes for telling me an epidural was an option, and explains I have no choice I have to do this right here right now no drugs. He explains how he wants me to push and then it's go time. The next few minutes became the worst minutes in my entire life. The pain that I wasn't prepared for threw me into another universe. All I remember is thinking I was dying. This was the end, my fate, and I couldn't even open my eyes.
6:18 PM: Violet arrives! Now, I'd love to say at this point that I was happy, and it was wonderful ... yada, yada, yada. It wasn't. I just knew the pain was gone for now, I laid back and waited for Jesus to arrive and take me away. At one point, when I realized I hadn't died, I felt like I should have heard the baby cry, or ask how she was, but I didn't know how. I looked left and saw Dan crying and went right back to thinking about death. He must be crying because I'm dead. Thankfully, I didn't die! I eventually came around, although still in shock was able to hear Violet, talk to Dan and hold her for the first time.
After she was born everything finally settled down. Not for long of course, but I did give the nurses a short break ;)
A few notes and things I didn't know about....
*After she was born, I sat up, looked around the room and proclaimed "That sucked!"
*The 'bed' I was on, was a gurney with no rails or stirrups.
*I hadn't been admitted to the hospital!
*The room was so small they couldn't close the door. So the nurses had to block the hallway so people wouldn't walk by during the party!
*There were no tables or proper equipment in the room, so garbage cans doubled as tables and the end of the bed, which was not large, was where all the magic happened. No drop down fancy bed!
*I tried to open my eyes but didn't know how. well, Dan said I did open my eyes. But, there were no eyeballs, just white! Great! I looked like the exorcist having a baby! ;)
*Dan said at one point I asked the nurse for an epidural. When she said it was too late for one I laid my head down and started sobbing!
So now, back to the chaos. Violet is in the nursery, I am being admitted and settled and Dan is out talking to parents. The nurse has me get up to go to the bathroom. I decided it would be fun to pass out on the toilet! haha! I warned her I was going to pass out, I even kindly let her know it was getting dark and the smelly stuff wasn't working. According to Dan, who was now back in the room, I looked at them and in a jovial tone said "There goes my hearing!" and was out!
Once I was settled I was moved into an actual room with an actual bed! I even got a TV and a window! I was thrilled! We stayed in the hospital for 48 hours which was nice. usually they kick you out but my instant labor and birth earned me a little extra TLC! Nurses kept coming in just to meet the patient who had the baby in '25' which was the number assigned to the closet! I felt like a celebrity! ;)
Now, 2 weeks later, we are all pretty settled! Physical wounds have been healing but the mental ones are still a little fresh ;) Many have commented "When you have another baby you better get to the hospital right away" Um, news flash, no plans for another baby and talking about it now is like throwing salt on the wound! We'll look into adoption if another child is on our future! For now, Violet is very content with her animal brothers and sisters.
Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes! I'll do my best to update with more pictures soon!
